What a ride
This book was one of the best I've read in so very long, it's not exactly "Dune" though reading through it, you do get a good feel of what I can only describe as post-industrial themed English writing-- much like Tolkien, Herbert, and perhaps Heinlen. In fact, speaking of these authors, you do get a good feel of Heinlen's "Starship Troopers" several times in regards to Gonzales's description of the Caldari.
In a Tolkien sense, you get a sad feel on the part of the Gallente President and his distress at the Caldari's seemingly relentless surge from shakey trade partners to an enemy nation. It reminds me in ways of Gandalf the Grey speaking about Saruman the White.
In regards to how Gonzales portrays the Minmatar, you definitely get a feel of Muadib's Fremen warriors, though these ones seem a little bit more enlightened in civilized ways.
The reason I gave this book a 4 instead of a 5 is because 1- it's size-- I was expecting the size of something more along the lines of a regular paper-back book and this thing is huge. Secondly, the cover materials are sub-par and my book already has the appearance of being a book I've had for years.
Finally, it seriously pisses me off that I couldn't find it in stores! Other than that, this book is a must-have for anyone who loves Eve, or anyone who's never even heard of Eve but loves sci-fi.
One final thing that perhaps should have earned this book a 5, is the really cool fact that Mr. Gonzales has autographed them, though I have a sneaking suspicion that this was mass stamped as opposed to actually hand written. |

Amazing
This book is a perfect addition to your collection of novels you're a fan of Eve. It gives an excellent understanding of the events that lead up to the current situation in the Eve universe. Only con is that it may be hard to understand for new or non Eve players. |

EVE: The Empyrean Age novel
I have to say I bought this not really expecting much.
How wrong could I be... as an Eve player and fan for four years now, I was enthralled!
It is written in a way that you need no knowledge about Eve-Online to enjoy, however if you are a player then it is clear that the research has been done and to a good standard to boot.
Read this if your lust for the game has subdued and you need a booster.
Read this if you want an early night but can't sleep without an Eve fix first.
Give this to your partners, parents and friends and maybe they will at last undestand the geek in you.
This is not Asimov... but it is a damned good read! |
